ABC (American Broadcasting Company)

ABC
KEY FACTS
Founded: May, 1943
Parent Company: Disney-ABC
Tagline: "Start Here"
Website: abc.go.com

With a long and storied history, ABC has evolved into one of the more popular networks on TV today. From daytime drama to the exclusive rights to the Academy Awards, the Disney-owned property carries plenty of entertainment cachet, both off and on TV. On the sports side, it owns a majority stake of the entire ESPN network and, either on ESPN or ABC, broadcasts a variety of live games/events: NFL (Sundays and Monday Night Football), PGA (British Open, The Open Championship), Tennis (Wimbledon), X Games, etc. ABC is also the home to a host of perennial special events such as the American Movie Awards, Tournament of Roses Parade and the Country Music Awards.

With regard to daytime programming, back in the day they were the leaders in the game show (the good ol' days of the non-PC The Dating Game :)) and soap opera space. However, with the advent of reality TV, they shifted away from those genres in favor of more cost-effective and topical shows such as The View, The Chew, etc. During primetime hours, they're always testing new shows and ideas, but there'll never be a shortage of crime and/or medical dramas. Currently the highest rated network on TV (just ahead of NBC), ABC's doing quite a bit right and expect that trend to continue for years to come.
