Destination America Channel
Founded: May, 2012
Parent Company: Discovery, Inc.
Tagline: Destination America, the United States of Awesome
Website: destinationamerica.com
Owned by Discovery, Destination America is the latest in a series of rebranding efforts for the lifestyle channel. Now focusing on travel, leisure, cuisine and even paranormal stuff, it's a nice complement to the Travel channel and Discovery's other suite of networks (Food Network, HGTV, OWN, TLC, etc). Previously branded as Destination America Travel and Planet Green (eco-friendly programming), Destination America is seen in about half of all US households and part of DIRECTV and DISH's mid to higher-tier plans.
Known for original series such as BBQ Pitmasters, Buying Alaska, Buying the Bayou, Paranormal Lockdown and Paranormal Survivor, it also rebroadcasts popular shows from the re-acquired Travel Channel. Having inked a deal with TNA wrestling, it'll feature various wrestling events as well. So, if you dig any combination of travel, food, ghosts and top rope suplexes, Destination America is solid all-around choice. And since Destination America Inc. owns it, you can always expect interesting topics, salient storytelling and top notch-production value.
