At first thought, Netflix and DISH don't seem to have a lot in common. One's the online streaming leader, the other a leader in more traditional satellite TV. A couple years back, however, they teamed up to integrate Netflix into most of DISH's receivers and program guide. Speaking of, which channel is Netflix on DISH? #302. Simply tune to it and Hopper will launch the Netflix app. You can also manually go the "Apps" section in your program guide and find Netflix there. Option C is hitting the "Netflix" button on your remote (newer remotes only). Finally, if you have a voice remote, just hold down the mic and say "Netflix" or any show you want and it'll automatically open it up. For now, the Netflix app is only integrated into the following receivers/devices: Hopper 3, Hopper Duo, Wally or Hopper with Sling.
Smart integration of Netflix & Dish's library
DISH didn't simply add the Netflix app to the program guide and call it a day. They actually deeply integrated it with On Demand and your DVR library. So, when you search a show on Netflix, if you already have it or an episode saved on your DVR, the guide will let you know and you can instantly watch it from there (it's on your Hopper's DVR so takes up no bandwidth and will always play without any buffering, even if you're not connected to the internet). And if a particular show has already been purchased or rented via DISH's On Demand, it'll give you that option as well.
Do you need the internet to stream Netflix?
Yes. Since Netflix is a streaming service, by definition, you'll need to have internet to load and play shows. Anything above 5 Mbps should be plenty to stream in HD. For programs in 4K (which there are a growing number, especially sports), you'll need the Hopper 3 and 4K Joey. Of course, you'll need a 4k compatible TV, otherwise your TV while attempt to upscale the picture to fill in the missing pixels.
Avoid having to constantly switch inputs
If you're the familiar with the process of having to switch back and forth from the "TV" and other inputs on your remote, you know just how frustrating it can get. The elimination of that step is one of the biggest upsides of Netflix's integration with DISH. With all of Netflix's programming and controls embedded into the program guide, you'll be able to give those input buttons a break.
