When it comes to equipment, their modem/router combo is called Spectrum Advanced WiFi - it goes for $10/mo and is generally worth it if you don't have any equipment (if you upgrade to the Gig plan, it's included at no extra cost). What you can do with 500 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload
500 Mbps is a bunch of speed. Half a gig lets a big household do just about anything at any given time. Stream a bunch of movies, livestream your day, fire up a multiplayer game... and never worry about slowdowns or buffering.
For developers, upload speed is big deal as well. This isn't fiber so cable internet upload speeds tend to be quite a bit slower. Still, 10 isn't all that bad and should suffice for most use cases.

The ordering process is generally simple and that syncs up with your first bill. No big surprises. Here are the applicable fees:
Spectrum 300 fees
Router (Advanced WiFi)
Spectrum's router, it's a solid piece of equipment but only lease it if you don't already have your own. Or lease it for a few months until you get the chance to buy a router. Use of their modem is free, the Advanced WiFi costs $7/mo.
Activation fee
Getting your internet setup usually includes an activation fee of $30 (whether you or a technician installs it).
Monthly Tax
Lastly, some states require an added tax be added to your bill. For internet service, that tends to be $2-$4 a month.
Autopay discount
In the past, Spectrum offered a discount for setting up autopay (usually $5 a month). That's no longer the case -- that discount was essentially rolled into the base price or other extras, so everyone's saving those few bucks a month.

So, combining all the features and fees, here's roughly what your first bill will look like (if you rent their equipment). Sign up for autopay for the convenience but it no longer lowers your bill.

Hidden fees
Fortunately, Spectrum is quite up-front with all their costs (moreso than the average competitor). There won't be any hidden fees added to your plan. If you miss a payment, a late fee will apply:
