Unlimited Gold 30

14 carat speed

Unlimited Gold 30 is the third package from Viasat/Exede and smack dab in the middle of all their "Unlimited" plans. As such, it's a solid mix of download speed and data allowance, all at a resonable price ($99.99/mo for 3 months, $149.99 therafter). Similar to the other four Unlimited packages, Gold 30 has no true data cap but your speed can decrease after 100 GB/month (depending on the total usage in your area).

With download speeds up to 30 Mbps, Unlimited Gold 30 is a solid plan for a bousehold of about 5 people. And that's if they're all actively online at the same time. If not, it can accommdate quite a few more.

Plan Details

Compared to Unlimited Silver 25 (the next smaller plan) you get 5 more Mbps of speed and 40 Gb of extra data... for $30 more per month. That's a pretty good deal and worth the upgrade if you need the bump in specs. That extra speed and data roughly equates to two average users or one heavy user (constant streaming, etc). So, go with Gold 30 if you have about a handful of members in your household, and at least a couple are heavy internet users.

Being satellite internet, just about everyone in the continental U.S. potentially has access to Viasat Exede and Unlimited Gold 30. Most folks are guaranteed 30 Mpbs but call the number listed to confirm. With regard to the monthly 100 GB data allowance, if you do exceed it, your speed could decrease to 1-3 Mpbs. It'll reset back to 30 Mpbs at the start of your next billing cycle.

PERFECT FOR: a large household that streams on 3-5 devices at a time.

Here's the full cost breakdown for the Unlimited Gold 30 plan, including receiver, installation and other misc. monthly charges. Keep in mind state or local governments can add additional charges to your bill. The set-up below assumes you're using your own modem (which we recommend). Frequently Asked Questions

If Unlimited Gold 30 doesn't work for, how soon after installation can I change?

Right away. Call anytime you feel it's not working out and your plan will get changed and bill prorated. Unless you're downgrading plans, it's best to keep an eye on your data usage before you upgrade.

Do I have to commit to 2-year contract with Viasat to get Gold 30?

Yes. With any Viasat Exede plan, a 2-year contract is required (there's a fair investmest cost on their end to hook everything up so it's somewhat understandable).

Will I still get charged if they can't find a line-of-sight to the satellite?

If the installation technician can't find a strong enough signal due to trees, mountains, etc. (rare situation these days), there'll be no charge for the visit.
