Boomerang TV

Boomerang
KEY FACTS
Founded: Dec, 1992
Parent Company: Turner Broadcasting System (Time Warner)
Tagline: "It's All Coming Back To You"
Website: boomerang.com

Boomerang first started out in 1992 as a block of popular vintage toons on its sister channel, Cartoon Network. After a solid multi-year run of Time Warner, Hanna Barbara, MGM and Warner Bros cartoons, Boomerang had a large enough following to spin off into its own full-time channel. Launched on April 1, 2000 (plenty of April Fools jokes had :), it kept to its winning chronologically-themed programming where cartoons from the same year were shown during the same week. That is, a 1975 Tom and Jerry Show episode would always be preceded and followed by another '75 toon, for example, a dependable Scooby-Doo with a generous helping of shaggy snacks and those meddling kids.

Nowadays, Boomerang TV mainly broadcasts newer cartoons from the 1990s and newer, although based on feedback and ratings, they constantly play around with showcasing the older material. And while, on an average week, there are still a good number of vintage cartoons shown, the rest can usually be found on Boomerang's fairly new streaming service (subscription of <$5/mo). Overall, Boomerang is a dependable source of family-friendly animation, both current and retro. Don't expect edgy or raunchy material, they're happy to leave that to big sis' late night lineup.
